We at Tipu’s Chai love simple. And what can be easier than Tipu’s Chai Now – The Simple Life? We may have found it.
When we saw a recipe posted by Food 52 recently (http://food52.com/blog/9524-homemade-vanilla-bean-chai-syrup) we thought it was worth a try to make with The Simple Life. Of course you can make your own chai “masala” in this recipe and add it to a cup of tea. But even simpler, you can make this yummy chai syrup complete with the tea already in it and use Bipin’s grandmother’s chai “masala” as well.
So sweet, so simple! Just grab this syrup out of the fridge, put a healthy dollop into your favorite mug, add hot water and sit down by the fire for a perfect cup of warm comforting chai!
Many of us recall Sweetened Condensed milk as that special treat in the cupboard that Mom pulled out when she wanted to make something really wonderful. Bipin’s mom was no different and chai made with this delicious milk product is rich and sweet and reminds him of home.
Easy to make and even easier to use, pull out this syrup when you want to make hot chai, add coffee for a fabulous “dirty chai” or it can be warmed and drizzled over vanilla ice cream or chocolate cake. Almost makes winter bearable…
Simple Chai Syrup
Makes enough syrup for 7-8 cups of hot chai
14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
Pinch of salt
1 vanilla bean, split open (optional)
In a pint jar with a tight-fitting lid, mix together sweetened condensed milk, spices, and vanilla bean until combined.
Can be stored in the fridge for up to six months (if it lasts that long!)
To make your hot drink, measure 2-3 Tablespoon of syrup into your cup and add 6-8 ounces boiling water or hot coffee.
